Susan Mary Yokubonus, 63, of Daytona Beach, FL, passed away at her home on December 13, 2013.
Susan is survived by her step-children Chuck Yokubonus, Dan Yokubonus, Charlene Lamons, Diane Hageman (Greg) and Cindy Findley. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins. Susan was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years Charles Robert Yokubonus.
Susan was born in Havermill, MA on November 16, 1950 to the late Irene and Benjamin Walker. Growing up she attended St. James Grammar and Preparatory Schools under the Sisters of St. Joseph. Following preparatory school she attended the University of Massachusetts and ultimately completed her education at the UCF Daytona Campus. Susan was a Registered Nurse in Volusia County for 25 years and began her career in the ICU and ER ultimately becoming the Director of Nursing at Pediatric Services of America. She also taught CPR and ACLS at DBCC.
Susan was active in her community donating her time and support to the Crisis Pregnancy Center, The Council on Domestic Abuse and the V.A. Nursing Home. Susan was an active parishioner of The Basilica of St. Paul since 1970. She was an avid sailor and a 21 year member of the Halifax River Yacht Club. She was also a member of Hobie Fleet #80 and the Halifax Sailing Association. She enjoyed sewing, dancing, interior decoration and cooking.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday December 20, 2013 at 9:00 A.M. at the Basilica of St. Paul R.C. Church located at 317 Mullally St, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. A burial will take place at Daytona Memorial Park following the Mass. In lieu flowers donations may be made in Susan's memory to the Conklin Center for the Blind, 405 White Street, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
