Steven Kleid, 84, of Port Orange, died peacefully on February 23.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 2, from 5 – 7 pm at the Lohman Funeral home in Port Orange.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 3, at 2 pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.

Steven was born in Brooklyn, NY, to parents Blanch and Bernard Kleid on June 14, 1936.  He joined the Marine Corps at 16 and served for six years which included a stint at the Navy Photo School.  He graduated from FSU with a Bachelor's in Speech in 1959, followed by USAF Officer Training School in 1964 and back to FSU with a Master's in Communications in 1966.  He served in the Air Force for 20 years, primarily as a Public Affairs Officer in places such as Goose Bay Labrador; Lompoc, CA; Montgomery, AL; Thailand; Enid, OK; Soesterberg, the Netherlands; and finally, Port Orange to teach at the AFROTC at Embry Riddle.

His interests included music, theatre (he played Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha), photography, bowling (he got a perfect score during league play), board games and movies (he hosted a weekly game/move night at the VFW and has thousands and thousands of movies and tv shows on DVD).

Steve is survived by ex-wife Adele Kleid, daughter Gene Ironhill and her husband Chris, daughter Debra Lynn Kleid, sister Renie Zibman, and grandchildren Isabella and Nolan Ironhill.

The family of Steve wishes to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to his oncologist, Dr. Alexander, as well as the hospitalists, nurses, nurse technicians and staff at AdventHealth in Daytona Beach for taking such good care of him and being so gracious to us with their time and kindness.
