Steve Bayard Wilson Jr. age 90 of Port Orange passed away on February 28th 2012. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday March 5th 2012 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange 1201 Dunlawton Ave. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Born in Ft. Benning GA Dec. 29 1921 to Steve Bayard Wilson and Mary Sullivan Brokaw Wilson. He attended Randolph Macon Academy and the University of Kansas and joined the Marine Corps during World War II. He was stationed in Jacksonville FL when he met Julianne Clark and became engaged. They were married on December 1 1951. After his time of military service he went to work for Fram Corporation along with his father Steven B. Wilson and his younger brother Charles Alexander Wilson. During this time period he lived in Rhode Island Ohio Illinois Minnesota and Wisconsin and eventually settled with his wife and four children in Atlantic Beach FL. There he was able to pursue his passion as a photo journalist for a local weekly community paper. One of his favorite assignments was covering the visit made to Florida by Julia and David Eisenhower. He also covered the homecoming of Lt. Commander John McCain shortly after the future senator had been freed as a prisoner of war. He also covered many games of the Fletcher Senior High School Senators and Jacksonville University Dolphins Basketball team while Artis Gilmore was on the team. He was part of the founding group of members who install the Players by the Sea Community Theater in an old bijou venue in Jacksonville Beach and performed as a character actor in some of the productions presented at that location. He passed on his love of thorough bred horse racing photography opera classical music and literature to his children and was an avid collector of books and antiques. He was an enthusiastic sports fan and attended local high school football games. He also enjoyed taking his children and many of their friends to Jacksonville Suns and Rocket games. He was also a lifelong Red Sox fan.
He passed away quietly at home with family and friends present. A private memorial service will be held in Daytona Beach FL with a Marine Honor Guard salute. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Julianne Clark Wilson; son Steve B. Wilson III of Jacksonville FL; and daughters Mary Laurel Lyle of Daytona Beach FL and Artemis Ezikovich of Warren Rhode Island.
