Funeral Services for Steve N. Xynidis will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday July 13 2011 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 129 N. Halifax Ave. Daytona Beach 32118 with Father Joseph Samaan officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Daytona Memorial Park 1425 Bellevue Ave. Daytona Beach. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Tuesday July 12 2011 at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona 1423 Bellevue Avenue Daytona Beach FL 32114 with a Trisagion Service being held at 7:00pm (Tuesday) at the Funeral Home.
Steve N. Xynidis (70) of Daytona Beach FL has fallen asleep in the arms of the Lord on July 8 2011 after a prolonged illness. He was born in Pireaus Greece and settled in Daytona Beach for the past 59 years. He graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1958. Steve attended Florida Military; joined the Navy of which he was honorably discharged; received his marine biology degree from the University of Miami in 1964; and his Physical Therapy degree from the University of Florida in 1968. He was an accomplished man and actively involved in his community. He played college football which was highlighted with a career with the Daytona Orlando Thunderbirds. He had a strong passion for coaching and duck hunting. He broke ground for Omega 40 in 1978. Steve was a part of several Volusia County boards and a member of many organizations including St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church Daytona Beach Quarterback Club Volusia County Gator Club Volusia County Boys and Girls Club A.H.E.P.A. Speedway Chapter past president of Ducks Unlimited and endless others. Steve was an exceptional man and always the life of the party who never met a stranger. He inspired many and was loved by all. Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years Elaine Xynidis; two sons Nick (and his wife Donna) and Jon Xynidis; daughter Christy Xynidis; mother Margo Kiriakes; brother Tasso Kiriakes; granddaughters Brianna and Natalyn ;three nieces Margo Desi and Christina Kiriakes; sister-in-law Yiota Kiriakes and many loving extended family and friends. He will greatly be missed!
