Stephen Arthur Montemurro, Sr., 75 of Port Orange, FL passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. He was born on November 24, 1948 in Oneonta, NY to Arthur and Shirley (Gras) Montemurro.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Susan; son, Stephen A. Montemurro, II (Kelly) of Ormond Beach, FL; daughter Wendy Montemurro (Gil DeJesus), of Daytona Beach, FL; sisters Nancy Stout of Hudson Falls, NY and Lisa Towne (Kevin) of Greenwich NY; granddaughters Alexis and Jasmine DeJesus; great grandsons Kaelyn and Kyrie; brothers and sisters-in-law Bruce and Linda Wheeler of Oneonta, NY; Connie and Bob Kisner of Port Orange, FL, Bob Wheeler of New Hartford, NY, several nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Stephen was a 1967 graduate of Oneonta High. He enlisted in the United States Army in December, 1967. He served in Viet Nam from May of 1968 until August of 1970. He was a sergeant when he was honorably discharged in 1970. Stephen worked for the Oneonta Video and then Astrocom Electronics until he relocated to Greenwich, NY in 1975 where he worked for Hollingsworth and Vose Paper Company until he relocated to Port Orange, FL in 2001. Until he became disabled in 2004, Stephen worked on the custodial staff at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. During his life, Stephen enjoyed listening to music, going boating, water skiing, hunting, and riding his ATV. He had a hunting camp in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. He talked about it even after moving to Florida. He loved dogs and for many years his constant companion was his beloved Chessie. He enjoyed camping and taking his family on vacations to historical places such as Boston, MA, and Washington, DC. Stephen was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed the times he was able to go to races at the tracks in Talladega, AL and Daytona Beach.
There will be a viewing at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 26. 2023 at Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange located at 1201 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, FL 32127. Memorial services will begin at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Military honors will be presented at 2:00 PM at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery located at 5525 US 1, Mims, FL 32754.
