IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stephen V.
Edwards
February 4, 1948 – October 7, 2025
Stephen Vincent Edwards went home to be with God on October 7, 2025. Steve was born in White Plains, New York on February 4, 1948. He was the fourth son of five, born to Ralph and Mary Edwards. Steve grew up in the White Plains, Ossining area of New York.
Steve attended Ossining High School, where he was a state champion wrestler. He had multiple degrees: a bachelor's degree from Hiram Scott College in Nebraska, a full master's degree from Western Connecticut State in Danbury, Connecticut, and he had also completed all the course work for a master's degree from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. Steve was a physical education teacher in White Plains for thirteen years before moving to Flagler County Florida with his wife Phyllis and their two children, Elaine and Elyse Edwards.
Steve was the Director of the Adult and Community Education Program in the Flagler County School system. He was very innovative and began apprenticeship programs ahead of the current interest and curve in Career Technical Education. He ran the Adult Education High School and all the on-site preschool and childcare programs, the first in any system to have childcare on-site for teachers and staff. He had so many community and adult education students that his enrollment exceeded the enrollment of the school system itself. He was honored by Mrs. Barbara Bush, First Lady, for Literacy Programs. He worked for the Flagler County School system for over twenty-two years.
He was married to his wife, Phyllis, for fifty years. They were married in Coral Gables, Florida in December of 1974. Steve and Phyllis loved each other until death do you part. They had two beautiful girls, growing up in Flagler County. Steve had many physical challenges around the age of fifty, but beat leukemia, a bone marrow transplant, and brain surgery, (to name a few) and went on to live for another twenty-seven years.
He was a fighter, strong and courageous, and a very loyal person. He loved his family above everything and always put them first. He was a force of nature, and we grieve his passing but know he is with the Lord and not suffering.
A memorial service to honor Steve Edwards' life will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Lohman Funeral Home, 220 Palm Coast Parkway SW, Palm Coast, FL, 32137, with a light reception to follow.
