Obituary

John H. Springer. 79 of South Daytona passed away Saturday March 27 2010. A funeral service in his honor will be held Saturday April 10 2010 11:00 AM at the Ormond Chapel of the Lohman Funeral Home followed by an interment at Florida National Cemetery in Jacksonville. The viewing and visitation will take place Friday April 9th 5:00 pm -7:00 pm. John was born in Akron Ohio to Howard and Olive Springer. He was a proud US Navy veteran F. and AM Masons Graduate of Kent State University Miami School of Engineering and Carnegie Mellon University. He worked for many years for Burroughs in Philadelphia then he dedicated his talents to General Electric in the space program until his retirement. He was an avid boater Charter member founder and past commodore of the Halifax Cruise Club who also enjoyed reading spending his summers at his cabin in Crosby TN and rooting for the Orlando Magic. John will best be remembered as a brilliant generous gifted man who appreciated good company fine food and spent many happy hours boating with his wife Mary up and down the coast. Mr. Springer was preceded in death by his first wife of 41 years; Betty Shirley Springer son Keith Springer and sister Patty Dillon. He is survived by his second wife; Mary Springer and his family by marriage: stepson Jack Murphy Phillips Jr. and his wife Sheryl; two grandchildren Amanda and Jason Phillips; 2 brothers-in- law several nieces and nephews; and many admiring friends. A special thank you is extended to Dr. James Carratt for his dedication to John. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.
