Joan Socha 84 Port Orange passed away on Sunday May 24 2009. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday May 29 2009 at the Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange 1201 S. Dunlawton Ave Port Orange at 4:00 p.m. with internment to immediately follow at Daytona Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Joan was born May 8 1925 in Horey England. She was the oldest of nine children born to George and Leah Wood. While serving as a nurse during WWII she provided care for a young soldier named Bruno Socha and they married soon thereafter. She and Bruno immigrated to Yonkers New York in the early 50's and raised their five children. During this busy period Joan was also active in church school and various community activities. Upon Bruno's retirement in the early 70's they moved to the Daytona Beach area where she andBruno partnered a business developing properties in eastern Volusia County. For several years she was active in the Eastern Star and always had a helping hand for everyone she met. Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Bruno. She is survived by three daughters Christine McEneny Redbank New Jersey Margaret Socha Port Orange and Joan Kinder Port Orange; two sons Bernard Socha Cudjoe Key and Kenneth Socha New Smyrna Beach; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
