Shirley Callaway Holman passed away after a brief illness on September 25, 2022. She was born on August 20, 1931, to Laurence and Mildred Callaway of St. Louis. Shirley attended Columbia College and Webster University in Missouri. She had a nurturing approach to motherhood, raising five children. She lived in Georgia for 20 years, before moving to Daytona Beach in 1985.

Her parents had vacationed in Daytona since the 1940's. She ran a daycare in her home for over 20 years – building lasting relationships with several children and their parents. Shirley had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. She loved animals, bird watching, and enjoyed oil painting. Shirley enjoyed riding on Black Point Trail at Cape Canaveral and was thrilled when she occasionally spotted an alligator. Shirley was a voracious reader. She would frequently tell you the whole plot she was reading; including the end when you called. Shirley also loved to write letters. The family will treasure those forever!

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church of Port Orange. A reception will follow.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Rachel Holman, and a sister Cynthia Appel. She is survived by four children: Gay-Lynn Turner (Jim), Cody Holman Jr. (Becky), Marcia Bridges (Eddie), and Eric Holman, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and six nieces
and nephews.
