Obituary

Loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather, Sheldon "Shel" Ellis Reichard, born on February 9, 1932, and passed away peacefully at his home on July 20, 2024, with his wife, Carol, by his side.  Shel is survived by his two brothers and their wives, Glenn and Karen Reichard, and Doug and Gail Reichard, as well as Shel's three children and two grandsons - son, Scott Reichard, and two daughters, Julie McNeeley and her son, Colin McNeeley, and Cristina McAnally and her son, Christian J. Gill.  Carol's children, Diane Fowler, Don Scales, and Greg Scales were lucky enough to see their mother and Shel be happily married.  As Shel passed away, he was joyfully reunited with his parents, Alvin and Genevieve Reichard, and his granddaughter, Kirsten Reichard.

Shel was an amazing man with a strong passion for both his beloved Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers.  In his zest to live a full and enriched life, Shel attained the rank of Captain in the United States Army, and was a past District Governor with Lions International while a member of the Palm Coast Lions Club, District 35-O.  Shel's devotion and love of Lions was cheerfully recognized when he was given a Lifetime Membership in Lions International by the Ponce Inlet Lions Club, District 35-O where his wife, Carol, is a long-standing member.  Although initially an associate member of the Ponce Inlet club, Shel became an "official" member with Ponce Inlet Lions where he enthusiastically continued to provide support and service for the remainder of his life.  While employed in the civilian sector, through his work in both security and human resources, Shel engaged in finding ways to help many people and their families with both General Electric, Inc. and Consolidated Edison.  Shel's kindness and compassion ran further than his family and co-workers.  Shel had an abundant desire to help people, especially veterans, in as many ways as possible.

For a life will lived, in lieu of flowers, Shel's family respectfully asks that people remember Dogs, Inc. (formerly Southeastern Guide Dogs) who provide dog companions to veterans, and Beauty of Sight (formerly Florida Lions Eye Bank) who assist in both eye transplants and research for people of all ages.  Please make a donation in Shel's name to Dogs, Inc., 4210 77th Street East, Palmetto, Florida 34221; or Beauty of Sight, 900 Northwest 17th Street, #348, Miami, Florida 33136.
