Shedric "Shed" Hill Roberson, M.D., age 83, passed away peacefully from natural causes on March 8, 2022 at Halifax Hospice in Ormond Beach , Florida. Shed was born on April 3, 1938 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Merle Cates and Shedric Hill Roberson, Sr. Shed attended Baylor Military School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and earned a B.A. degree from the University of Mississippi which he attended on a football scholarship. While at Ole Miss, Shed played on the Ole Miss Rebels team as Right Guard and was on the team that won the 1959 National Football Championship. He also played in the Sugar Bowl and the Gator Bowl while playing for coach Johnny Vaught.

After graduating from Ole Miss, Shed attended Tulane Medical School in New Orleans and graduated in 1964. While at Tulane he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Honorary Medical Society. He completed both his internship and his general surgery residency at Tulane and Charity Hospital. After his residency he served in the U.S. Army as a Major and was posted to Puerto Rico and Germany. Upon returning to the U.S. Shed completed a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, La.

After moving to Ormond Beach, Florida with his family in 1973, Shed went into practice with Dr. John Cheleden. Halifax Hospital bought its first colonoscope for his use as he was the first surgeon in the area to use one. During his 30 year career in Florida, Shed served as Chief of Surgery at the three area hospitals: Halifax Hospital, Daytona Beach; Humana Hospital, Daytona Beach and Ormond Memorial Hospital, Ormond Beach. Once Dr. Cheleden retired he founded the Colon and Rectal Surgery Associates Roberson, Meese, Tolland, Ritter and Williams. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association and he also served as President of the Piedmont Proctological Society, a regional group of colo/rectal doctors.

Upon his retirement Shed moved to Oxford, Ms. and took courses at Ole Miss once again. He was the fifth of six generations of his family to attend Ole Miss. He loved to tell the story of how his grandfather, Lake Roberson, rode his mule from Pontotoc, Ms. to Oxford to attend Ole Miss with 50 cents in his pocket, one pair of pants and two shirts. He sold the mule for $5.00 which paid his tuition. Lake went on to become a Latin teacher and an outstanding attorney in Clarksdale. Shed donated his Oxford home to the University and established the Roberson Family Foundation to fund scholarships.

Shed was a brilliant surgeon, a kind man and a great dad. His first love was his children, with Ole Miss coming in 2nd. He was a runner and completed one marathon which he decided was more than enough. An avid sailor, he owned a succession of sailboats and enjoyed racing with his pals on the J boat and sailing with his family in the Bahamas and the British Virgin Islands. He was a very funny man and a great raconteur, although he sometimes laughed so hard at his own jokes that he couldn't get to the punch line. He regaled his family with his rendition of Elvis singing "Blue Moon"; with always getting into his football "stance" before every televised Rebel game. Shed was renowned for his Southern charm and his Mississippi Delta sayings.  He loved life, loved to dance so much that one of his nicknames was "The Mambo King". Another of his favorite pastimes was listening to The Allman Brothers, the Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Mississippi Blues legends such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King and Son Thomas, to name but a few.

Shed is survived by his daughter, Mary Money; daughter Claudia and her husband Chris; son Shed III; sister Gangaji and her husband Eli; four grandchildren, Anna, Lyla, Henry and Estelle; his former wife, Sang and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9th at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond , 733 West Granada, Ormond Beach, Florida 32174. The Family will be receiving friends from 1:00pm until the Service begins at 2:00pm.
