Obituary

Sharon Lee Sturgeon Hager, 77, lived a life defined by kindness, compassion, adventure, and an unwavering love for her family. Whether caring for children through her work as a physical therapist, traveling the world with her husband, or spending treasured time with her grandchildren, she brought warmth and joy to the people around her every day.

Born in Gallipolis, Ohio, on May 29, 1948, she passed away in Daytona Beach, Florida, on May 11, 2026.

She grew up in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and graduated from Marshall University in 1970 before earning her master’s degree in physical therapy from The Ohio State University.

In 1971, she married the love of her life, Gerald Hager, in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Together they built a life centered on family, adventure, and deep love for one another.

Her son, Brian, was the pride and joy of her life. She treasured every moment spent with Brian, his wife Kristen, and her beloved grandchildren, Benjamin (“Ben”) and Eleanor, who brought her endless happiness and love.

She dedicated her life and career to helping others, working for many years as a physical therapist and ultimately retiring from Putnam County Schools. There, she especially cherished working with children with physical disabilities, including cerebral palsy, and made a lasting difference in the lives of countless students and families.

After retirement, she and Gerald settled in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed the beach, friends, cruising in their Corvette and the next chapter of life together. They shared a passion for travel and created lifelong memories exploring the world together, including unforgettable trips to Antarctica, Egypt, France, Ireland, and throughout the American West. Whether close to home or across the globe, she approached life with curiosity, warmth, and joy.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald Hager; her son, Brian, daughter-in-law Kristen, and grandchildren Ben and Eleanor; her brothers, Walter Brooklyn Sturgeon, Jr. and William Joseph Sturgeon; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends who loved her deeply and will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norma “Sis” Virginia (Buffington) Sturgeon and Walter Brooklyn “Brookie” Sturgeon of Point Pleasant, West Virginia.

A memorial service will be held on May 26, 2026, at Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange, located at 1201 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, Florida. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. ET, followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. ET. Reverend Mark Spivey will officiate.
