Seymour (Sy) Weiner, MD, 84, of DeLand, FL, passed away Saturday Jan 18, 2020. He was born December 14, 1935 in Bronx, New York. Dr. Weiner grew up in an orphanage and went to Yeshiva University Preparatory School (Talmudic Academy) and James Monroe High School. He graduated from CCNY in 1957 (Jan) and attended Albert Einstein Medical School graduating in 1961 as an Honors Graduate. His internship was at Baltimore City Hospital and Residency in Radiology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. In 1964 he continued on as an instructor of radiology at Hopkins and then served two years in Korea. He then was in Texas as a radiologist and then rose to Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University Of Maryland until 1974. He left to be one of the first free standing radiation oncologists in the US and continued to develop the concept through out the Baltimore region. He was founder of the Free Standing Radiation Oncologists of the US, the Mid Atlantic Society of Radiation Oncologists and the Baltimore Oncology Club. He retired from Medicine in 1989 and became an avid pilot and started the Malibu Pilots Association and flew medical missionary flights. He was an instructor of Ballroom Dancing, certified by the London based society, The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance. He was a life long autodidact and attended several universities throughout Florida, attaining certificates in proficiency in Judaic Studies. Dr. Weiner was a strong believer in continuing adult senior higher education.

He was married twice and is survived by two sons, Eric and Paul and his previous wife, Carole Weiner. He is predeceased by his second wife Mary Weiner. Services will be private.
