Obituary of Dr. Sarah Enfield Eddleman Duvall

Sarah was born in Tiberius, Palestine on February 13, 1939, to H. Leo Eddleman and Sarah Fox Eddleman. She entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 11, 2023, while in her home in Deland, Florida at the age of 84.

At the beginning of WWII, she and her parents escaped via sea plane from Tel Aviv and returned to the United States where she grew up in Louisiana and Kentucky. She graduated from Garth High School in Georgetown, Kentucky in 1956. She attended Georgetown College where she met her husband Donald "Don" G. Duvall in history class. They were married in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 24, 1961. Sarah and Don attended medical school at the same time, Sarah at LSU and Don at Tulane University. After graduating from LSU Medical School in 1964, she interned at the Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. In the following years, she and Don had three children-Donny, Ellen and Ruth. In later years, when their youngest child, Ruth, graduated from high school, Sarah received her specialty training in OB/GYN in Louisville, Kentucky with a final year in the St. Paul Ramsey Hospital in Minnesota.

In 1972, she and her husband were appointed by the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention as medical missionaries and in 1973 they traveled the Bandung, Indonesia for language study. The family moved to Kediri, East Java, Indonesia in 1974 where Sarah served at the Kediri Baptist Hospital and home schooled their three children. In their local church, she played the piano and led the youth group choir and youth activities. In the hospital, she taught in the nursing school, trained midwives, delivered babies, and treated countless women who expressed their gratitude for her excellent care. Sarah and Don retired to Louisville, Kentucky in 2005, then moved to Deland, Florida in 2017.

She leaves behind her husband, Dr. Donald (Don) G. Duvall; their children Donny (Sharon) Duvall, Ellen (Deren) Harper and Ruth (Calvin) Collins; their 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren Drew (Beka) Duvall, Colette, Graham, Josh (Becky) Duvall, Justus, Jane, Bethany Duvall, Noah (Harper) Harper, Joseph (Yoe) Harper, Micah Harper, Isaiah Harper, Sophia Collins and Esther Kate Collins. She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Sarah Eddleman and her younger sister, Evelyn Gordinier.

A graveside service was held at the Deland Memorial Gardens on April 17, 2023, with the family in attendance.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 3, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Immanuel Presbyterian Church on 811 Orange Camp Road, Deland Florida 32720.
