Sandra "Sandi"
Kaye Pruitt Petker
Jun 4, 1946 — Dec 6, 2021
Sandra "Sandi" Kaye Pruitt Petker , of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away unexpectedly on December 6th, 2021, with her family at her side.
She was born on June 4th, 1946, to William and Faye Pruitt in Princeton, WV. The family moved to Daytona Beach, FL, in 1958. In 1964, Sandi graduated from Mainland High School. She then attended Daytona Beach Community College, graduating with a degree in nursing in 1966. On August 28th, 1971, Sandi married the love of her life, Larry Petker, in Daytona Beach, FL, at Douglas Park Baptist Church.
Sandi was a registered nurse at Halifax Medical Center. Her career spanned 32 years, including positions as Assistant Head Nurse over a medical-surgical unit, Head Nurse in the psychiatric unit, and Employee Health Nurse for HMC. Sandi's true passion was being a nurse, and it showed through her compassion and devotion to helping each patient in her care.
Sandi was named and honored as the Halifax Medical Center Employee of the Year in 1995. Her last official duty at Halifax was lighting the hospital Christmas tree before fully embracing the retired life in 1996. Although retired, Sandi was never one to sit idle. Sandi helped her husband develop two Medical Primary Care sites and assisted him in developing a successful medical management practice before retiring again in 2020.
Sandi was always involved and supported her children's extracurricular sports and school activities. She and her family are active members of Tomoka Christian Church. Sandi shared a love of sports with her husband and children. You could often find her rooting for her favorite teams, the Florida Gators and Atlanta Braves. As a lifelong Braves fan and annual spring training season ticket holder, she was delighted to see the Braves win another Worlds Series Championship in 2021.
Spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends was always of utmost importance to Sandi. She enjoyed traveling to see her family and grandchildren who lived outside of the area, often recapping the trip's events, and sharing photos of the memories made. She always looked forward to the holidays and having everyone gather. Sandi always made everyone feel welcome with a warm smile, gracious hug, homemade meal, and delicious baked goods when hosting in her home.
Sandi looked forward to going to the movies with Larry on Friday afternoons, reading an enjoyable book, venturing off to Disney World with her husband, spending time at the beach, enjoying an afternoon with the family and grandchildren by the pool or out on the boat on the Tomoka River. As a cancer survivor of over 25 years, Sandi was an ardent supporter of charitable causes and events advocating finding a cure.
Sandi was predeceased by her parents and brother, William "Bill" Pruitt II.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Dr. Larry Petker of Ormond Beach, FL; children Dr. Mark Petker of Orlando, FL; David Petker (Amanda) of Noblesville, IN; Stephanie Beauchamp (Greg) of Commerce, GA; and Amanda Faye Harris of Ormond Beach, FL, grandchildren Austin (Taylor), Conner, and Kayla, all of Commerce, GA, Lillian Faye and Addison of Noblesville, IN, and Elijah Lawrence and Norah Kate of Ormond Beach, FL.
