Sandra Fuire Baird age 64 of Ormond Beach and Vero Beach FL passed away surrounded by family and friends on Friday September 30 2005 after an extended battle with Ovarian Cancer. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday October 29 2005 at First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach. Mrs. Baird was born in Toledo Ohio and moved to Florida in 1986. A graduate of the University of Toledo Mrs. Baird is a former teacher having taught in 3 states: Ohio Maryland and Kentucky. She was also highly trained and considered a specialist in child advocacy; developing as Co-Chairman through the Junior League of Toledo the CASA Court Appointed Special Advocate Program ? Guardian Ad Litem within the juvenile court system in Toledo. The project among the first few of its kind in the country won a prestigious Ronald Reagan Volunteer Award. Mrs. Baird had great pride in this accomplishment and continued to her end to care and advocate for children. Her affiliations include: First United Methodist Church Ormond Beach and Hope Lutheran Church Toledo OH; Pi Beta Phi Sorority; Junior League of Toledo-Community VP and Child Advocacy Coordinator; Junior League Sustainers Daytona Beach and Vero Beach FL; Garden Club of the Halifax Country ? President 1997-1998; Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens ? long time Board Member and Past President; Vero Beach Museum of Art ? Chairmen?s Club; Museum of Arts of Sciences ? Daytona Beach; Oceanside Country Club ? current member; Inverness Country Club ? former member; The Toledo Club ? former member. She was preceded in death by her parents; Helen and T. J. Fuire ? formerly of Ormond Beach; beloved son Wade Anthony Baird who while a senior student at SMU was killed during an attempted robbery. This tragedy altered Mrs. Baird?s life. She continued to show strength and courage for the 11 years that followed. Her heightened appreciation of God?s beautiful gifts to mankind filled and enriched her life during this difficult time. She is survived by Jeffrey Ross Baird her husband of 41 years; her son Ross Austin Baird of Ormond Beach; her daughter Amanda Helen von Rumohr Christian of Brooklyn New York; her precious 4 year old granddaughter Rivers Grace Baird; her precious 1 1/2 year old granddaughter Christiane Helen von Rumohr; her brother Robert Anthony Fuire Karin of Manhattan Beach CA; and her beloved aunt Margaret Bryan Alexander of Baton Rouge LA. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens 78 East Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach FL 32176 for the establishment of a special garden project in Sandy?s memory.
