Sam "Big Sam" Berry 79 passed away peacefully on July 11 2012 at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Port Orange Florida. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Friday July 20th at 1:30 pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Inurnment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park Daytona Beach FL. Sam was born on June 25 1933 in Pittsburgh PA. He was raised in Pittsburgh where he was a Head Life Guard and attended Peabody High School. There he played football and ran track and field. He went on to obtain his Associates Degree from the University of Pittsburgh where he holds the collegiate indoor shot-put. Sam served his country proudly in the US Army and owned and operated an AAMCO station in Trenton NJ. In 1970 he moved to Volusia County to become the vice president of Hughes Oil Company Daytona Beach over the years he purchased and operated Broadway Sam's the Playmate Club and Club 92. Sam was a huge sports fan especially when it came to his Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed traveling with his buddies to Las Vegas and the Bahamas to play Black Jack. Sam is survived by his two daughter Donna (Tom) Breslin of Winter Garden FL and Heather (Peter) Loguidice of Boynton Beach FL as well as his sister Jeanine (George) Kimmel of Piscataway NJ and three grandchildren Kaitlin and Connor Breslin and Sophia Loguidice and his German Shepherds Skye and Caesar.
