Salvatore Costanza,
Our dearly beloved Salvatore Costanza was received into Jesus Hands and into God's paradise on April 27, 2018. Salvatore was born on April 27, 1938, to Antonio and Carmela Costanza.
Salvatore has a zest for life and lives every day to the fullest. Salvatore's father was a Brigadier General and had taken little Sal to different countries where he was stationed. This is where Dad's love of adventure of travel began. He traveled to France, Italy, Africa, Vatican City, United States and so much more. Amazingly Salvatore learned and spoke 3 languages by the time he was 14 years of age. In 1955, he came to America at age 17. He said he loved the 1950's. He loved the music, young Elvis Presley, the culture, the freedom, opportunities and food, understandable so. But after 6 years alone in America he missed his parents and family from abroad, so he took 2 months off from work to go back to Europe. In 1960, he flew to Europe to see his family and he was delighted. But unknown to Salvatore his parents plotted an idea that he will be married before he goes back to America. With the urging of his parents to get this 21 year old married, he was introduced to Lily, a beautiful young woman. Our Dad knew Lily since they were kids.
Our father asked for her hand in marriage and she said yes. Their incredible relationship lasted 57 years and produced five children, 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Salvatore worked in New York's Stouffers for years and after cold weather and events decided to move the entire family to sunny Florida. He found a good career at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he worked for many years until his retirement. Salvatore loved singing! He would sing all the popular songs in Italian. Volare was one of his favorite songs. As kids, we thought he missed his passion to be an Opera Singer. Dad had another passion and it was his Italian heritage. He proudly illustrated and explained everything to us about the Italian culture, language and food. He always had a smile when he would tell us. Salvatore also enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed traveling across the US and abroad. He had been to California, New York, Utah, Bahamas, Africa, France, Italy and so much more. He always believed that traveling brought great wisdom and understanding to an individual. You could always learn something new and flourish. Lastly Salvatore's greatest love for life was his unconditional and everlasting love for Lily his wife, children and his entire extended family. Three sentences best describes his feelings: Our father Salvatore adored his children. Our father cherished his grandchildren and he treasured his great grandchildren. What a father! What a Dad! What an admired, respected and beloved man. You are so loved and missed.
Salvatore was surrounded by his loving family and friends on his 80th birthday as he left this earth to celebrate eternal life with the Lord on April 27, 2018. Salvatore is survived by his loving wife, his daughter Carmelina and her children, Christina, Jessica, and Kye, his son Anthony and his wife Johnna and their children Shelby, Julia, Anthony, and Lilianna, his Son Frankie Costanza, his son Richard and wife Cathy and their children, Brittany, Samantha, Danelle, Alex and Elijah, lastly Alfred and his wife Tracy and their daughter Venerina.
The family would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Kindred Hospice for their great care, compassion and support. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 2, at 11a.m, at the Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange, with a viewing for family and friends from 10a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater, FL.
