Sally Ann (Rishell) Thomas, 77, of Ormond Beach, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Sally was born on December 2, 1946 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to Kenneth Rishell and Helen (Johnson) Rishell. She graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1964, also earning her Bachelor's Degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her Master's Degree in Education from Clarion University. She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma and began her career as a teacher in Punxsutawney in 1968. Sally married her husband of 52 years, D. Douglas Thomas, Sr., in 1971 and moved to Florida in 1973. In Florida, she continued her 42 year career in education teaching kindergarten and first grades at Boston Avenue, Highlands, Pine Trail, Horizon, and McInnis Elementary Schools until her retirement. Sally also worked at and was co-owner of Weather Guard, Inc.

Sally's greatest joy in life was being a grandmother to her seven beautiful grandchildren. "Mom Mom," as Sally was known to them, loved spending time with all of her grandchildren, attending all of their activities and sporting events, and also enjoying time with them at the playground. Her favorite pastimes in addition to her grandchildren included spending time at the family house in Punxsutawney, happily shuttling her children and grandchildren around in her vans, her service as a member of the Junior League, and running into her former students and their families while out and about.

Sally is survived by her husband of 52 years, D. Douglas Thomas, Sr.; daughter April (Bradley) Cole; son Douglas (Mykalann) Thomas, Jr.; son Tadd (Jenna) Thomas; grandchildren Madison Cole, AJ Cole, Douglas Thomas III (Tripp), Anna Kate Thomas, Carolina Thomas, Ada Thomas, and Brooke Thomas; and many other family and friends.

Arrangements are being handled under the direction of Lohman Funeral Home. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach located at 336 South Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach, Florida 32176. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that a donation be made to Ormond Beach Friends of Recreation, 399 N. US Hwy 1, Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
