Funeral service for Russell Frederick Klune 83 of Magnolia Ave in South Daytona will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at HolyCross Lutheran Church on Big Tree Rd. His family will receive friends in the chapel of Baggett & Summers Funeral Home on Tuesday today from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm and Wednesday from 2:00 pm till 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm till 8:00pm. His interment will be in Daytona Memorial Park.
Born in Harrison NY he has been a resident of this area since 1950. Captain Klune graduated from the New York State Merchant Marine Academy in 1942 and sailed merchant vessels during WW II and 1 year of peace time in the Atlantic Mediteranean Middle East and Murmansk War Zones. Captain Klune was an officer in both the US Maritime Service and the USNR. Mr. Klune was a yacht captain for 35 years along the east coast great lakes Canada and the Bahamas. During the Boat Works ?Hay Day? Captain Klune brought the contract and supervised the construction of one of the largest yachts ever to be built here for one of his owners.
After ?swallowing the anchor? R. Frederick Klune finished his working life with the Volusia County School Board maintainence dept.
Survivors include his wife Jean Daughter Fredericka A. Morin of Daytona Beach stepdaughters Maria Jean Boros of Inverness Fl and Paulette Hahn of Tarpon Springs Fl. stepson John Paul Zappela of Kingman Az a brother David W Klune a sister Barbara L. Carr of Daytona Beach 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
