Russell Durham 90 passed away peacefully October 07 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He spent his entire life in the Daytona Beach area. He served in the US Army/Air Corp during WW II where he reached the rank of SSGT. He served as a waist gunner on a B-24 Liberator with the 450th Bomb Group 721 Bomber Squadron 15th Air Force in Italy France and the Balkans. He was awarded the Presidential Citation for combat service in Europe. He was the owner/operator of Russell Durham Seafood until his retirement at the age of 85. He married the love of his life Lillian Gover and enjoyed 50 wonderful years together. Russell's heart was kind his spirit gentle and his demeanor quiet. He was a compassionate man who understood that the greatest things in life could not be bought or touched only felt with the heart. He was forgiving and chose to see the good in people. He loved the Great Smokey Mountains this time of the year and bringing fresh apples back home to his friends. He enjoyed fishing the Atlanta Braves telling jokes and most of all his family. He leaves to celebrate his life sons Steven (Lisa) Durham Russell (Mary) Durham Michael (Robin) Durham daughters Marie (Karl) Arndt and Shari (Donnie) Krauth all residing in the Daytona Beach area. There are 8 grandchildren Jimmy Jason Michael Angela Shaina Shelby Kayla and Marina as well as 4 great-grandchildren Tristen Christian Logan and Aurianna. He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian in 2005. A Service of Remembrance will be celebrated on Tuesday October 14 2008 at 6:30 pm at Lohman Funeral Home 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach FL with Reverend Ray Toomer of Christ United Methodist Church Holly Hill FL officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Hospice of Volusia/Flagler 3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange FL 32129.
