Rose M. Durling, 81, of Daytona Beach passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
Rose was born on February 29, 1932 in Westport, Connecticut to the late Filomena (Marotto) and James Izzo. Her birth mother died when Rose was four, and her father remarried to Angelina (DiDomenico). Born during leap year, Rose was often mentioned in the local paper on her birthday every four years. Rose graduated from Staples High School in Westport, Connecticut, class of 1951. Locally she worked at the Daytona Beach Airport with Jerry's Catering for many years, first as a waitress and then as a server behind the cafeteria line. She was also a member of The Basilica of Saint Paul Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, James Alger Durling; son, David P. Durling; parents, Filomena and James Izzo; stepmother Angelina; siblings, Salvatore Izzo, Theresa Chariot, Antoinette Capodicci, Sarah Moran, and Joseph Izzo. Survivors include her sons, James (Linda) Durling, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, Rob (Debbie) Durling, of Candler, North Carolina; siblings, Mary Lehn, Florence "Lee" Schaefer, Anthony "AJ" Izzo, James Izzo, Bernard Izzo, John Izzo; and Francis "Cookie" Izzo; grandchildren by her son James (Rebecca, James, and Elizabeth); grandchildren by her son David (Rebekah, Madelyn, Julina, Barbara, and Susannah); and daughter-in-law Valerie Durling, of Fort Worth, Texas. Rose also leaves behind many extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her honor to the Special Olympics at, 1133 19th Street NW, Washington, DC 20036. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. Condolences for the family may be shared with the family through this online guestbook.
