Rosalie A. Hermanns's Obituary

Rosalie A. Hermanns, born in Chicago in 1933 to Ralph and Jennie Cannataro, passed away peacefully on April 1 in Palm Coast, Florida. Her strength and resilience endured until the very end, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire all who knew her.

After graduating from high school, Rosalie began her career as a secretary, a role she embraced with diligence and pride. Over the years, she worked for several organizations, including the U.S. Postal Service, BFGoodrich, S&H Green Stamps and Greyhound. While at Greyhound, she was one of the voices behind “Miss Mary Miles,” the company’s fictional spokesperson, responding thoughtfully to customer inquiries. She later joined Johnson & Johnson, where she remained a dedicated employee until her retirement.

Rosalie met the love of her life, Henry Hermanns, at a Valentine’s Day dance that brought sailors in from the Great Lakes Naval Station. They were married in 1956, beginning a partnership defined by deep devotion and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a life centered on love and family, raising four daughters.

In her youth, Rosalie played the marimba, inspiring her daughters to play musical instruments and participate in choir. She also found joy in bowling, proudly achieving a high game of 224. She shared with Henry a love of the water and enjoyed more than thirty cruises with him and other family members over the years. Yet above all her hobbies and accomplishments, it was her role as a mother and caregiver that defined her life. Rosalie expressed her love through quiet sacrifice and steadfast presence. Even while working full-time for most of her adult life, she was there for every important milestone in her daughters’ lives. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, comfort, and generosity—where she showed her love most clearly, always making sure others were nourished before herself. In her final days, Rosalie’s last spoken wish was for her family to be together around the table, sharing a meal. She found peace in knowing everyone had been fed—a simple yet profound reflection of the love she gave so freely throughout her life.

Rosalie was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Henry; her sister, Josephine Hill, and her son-in-law, Robert Macechak. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Baker; her brother, Frank Cannataro; her daughters, Linda Byrd (Harvey Jr.), Kathleen Macechak, Jennie Morin (Patrick), and Mary Shumaker (Joseph); her grandchildren, Erin Barnes, Amanda Garrett, Keenan Morin, and Kendra Morin; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her close friend, Bob Balseiro.

There will be a service at Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast, 220 Palm Coast Parkway SW, Palm Coast Florida on Tuesday, April 7, at 8:30 a.m.
