Obituary

Romeo M. de Gracia, M.D. passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019. Born in Fort Stotsenburg, Pampanga, Philippines (later named Clark Air Force Base) on June 7, 1937 to U.S. Army Major Fortunato de Gracia and his wife Concepcion. He was the fifth of ten children. After attending the University of San Carlos on the island of Cebu, Philippines, he attended medical school at Santo Thomas University in Manilla, and completed his specialty in OB/GYN at the Woman's Hospital of St. Luke's and Fellowship at Columbia University in New York City. He was professor of OB/GYN at Southwestern Univerity Medical School in the island of Cebu, Philippines. He settled in Daytona Beach in 1971 and practiced as a board-certified OB/GYN for 41 years serving the local community. He was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church since 1971, a member of the UST Medical School Choir and an avid tennis player. Siblings who predeceased him are Estrella, Rodulfo, Rebecca, Fortunato Jr., Teresita and Carmelita, and his daughter Maria Amelia. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Amelia, his sons Dennis and Jeffrey, his grandson Xavier, siblings Lydia of New Jersey, Jose of New Orleans, and Chona of Ormond Beach. Viewing will be at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Ave from 10am-7pm on Saturday and Sunday, February 16-17, 2019 and a burial Mass at Basilica of St. Paul's on Monday, February 18 @ 10:30am, 317 Mullally St., Daytona Beach, FL.
