Rohini Chaturgan Singh

Around 7:41 a.m., Feb. 20, 2019, the sunlight, wind, gods and the children of one Rohini Singh, born to parents Rajkaumari and Pancham Chaturgan on Sept. 24, 1941, did bid a final farewell to a wife, sister, mother, grandmother who drew her last breath following a long battle with cancer.  Rohini, a resident of Palm Coast, Fla., would reminesce on raising children all her life. From the age of 11, when her father charged her with the care and upbringing of her 10 siblings, despite her interests and intellectual aptitude whilst studying at a Christian School in her hometown of Georgetown, Guyana, to the upbringing of her own six daughters.  Though her affinity and latent academic talents went mostly unnoticed by those whose lives she did touch the most due to her humble modesty, Rohini was never hesitant in pursuing educational endeavors well into her lifetime by studying courses and classes no matter what state she called her home. In addition to studying and raising families, she often held down several humble odd jobs on a daily basis throughout her long and varied life.  Rohini's passions did not halt there.  She had a passionate love of food and cooking bountiful dishes she'd learned to make early on as a child in Guyana. Dishes that usually featured the freshest of ingredients, including a variety of fish and seafood she'd excitedly catch herself even in the waterways of her final home in Florida.  Many times her love of fishing and the lure of a good catch would leave her flailing in shallow waters or getting herself (and unsuspecting, less enthusiastic others) pinched by crabs she'd cook up to soothe any untended injuries. Rohini's passion for perfection drove her to become an accomplished seamstress of the highest caliber. An artist using any sewing machine, she made from scratch such authentic garbs to fool even experts no matter what era.   In under a week, Rohini could produce a perfectly fitted Victorian-era dress for an Oscar Wilde play. Overnight, a last minute poodle skirt or two for a memorable Halloween night. Or, the odd, yet superbly fashioned "house dress" for herself--though the fabric was sure to be a lovely velvet floral or brightly-colored satiny sheen any woman would sell her soul to wear just once on a night out in the city.  Rohini's passion for sewing was only one of her many skills. For several decades she was employed privately and by NYS as a caregiver to both the elderly and/or the mentally impaired with a kindness and compassion that would induce tears when someone she tended to passed on.  It is that same kindness Rohini is best remembered for, not just professionally and personally but by sharing that kindness indicriminately even with strangers she would soon make lifelong friends.  Many souls have firsthand accounts of her innate ability to soothe anyone through their tragedies and life's tribulations with her hardheaded stubborn determination.  Rohini was preceded in death by her daughter Champa Singh  due to a tragedy in NYC, several years after migrating to the country. She is also preceded by her eldest daughter, Chandra Pererra, who left behind Rohini's eldest grandson John Dhansher and his daughter Sophia as well as her youngest grandson Avinash Pererra.  Rohini also leaves behind her devoted spouse Lachram Singh, of Palm Coast, to whom she was married to for 40years. She leaves behind their two daughters, Lisa Singh, a nurse practitioner of Tallahassee, and Christine, son-in-law Anthony and their two daughters Gwendolyn and Ellowyn of San Diego, Calif.  Rohini also leaves behind two daughters from her first marriage, Nicole of Tampa, and Kali Micalizzi, son-in-law Mark and their three children Brandon Micalizzi, Sebastian Micalizzi, Sabrina Micalizzi. Great grandson Weston Micalizzi.  Though services have finalized and her remains are now at rest and she can no longer walk the earth beside us, our hearts and minds will forever be engraved with her memory.  Rohini lived joyfully and heartily, as we all should. She will be remembered with the kindness, humor, lively grace and enduring devotion to faith that she lived and passed on to others.
