Obituary

Robert W. Boggess, Sr., born September 6, 1932 in Calera, Alabama, died March 10, 2018 in Ormond Beach, Florida. "Bob" was a kind, caring, and generous man, who was loved and respected by all who knew him. He served his country in the US Navy for 20 years, with tours of duty in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. His humble nature was best exemplified in 1963 when the USS Lafayette was famously christened in Groton, CT by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. As Chief Petty Officer in the photography division, the photo shoot was assigned to Bob. In turn, Bob passed the assignment to one of the photographers under his command, whom he knew to be well-skilled but lacking in confidence. Bob was an active member of Riverbend Community Church; Ormond Beach Masonic Lodge No. 326; Ormond Beach Chapter No. 296, Order of the Eastern Star; and the York Rite. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Aletheia, as well as his second son, "Buddy." Survivors include Evelyn, his wife of 37 years; sons Robert W. Boggess II, Glen Michael Boggess, Stephen Alan Boggess, and Jeffrey Boggess; stepdaughters Denise Michaels, Diane Lowery, and Doreen Ortiz; and his sister, Gayle Wisdom. He is likewise survived by 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday, March 17 at Lohman Funeral Home on Granada Blvd in Ormond Beach. The family will receive guests from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the memorial service at 11 a.m., at which time friends and acquaintances are welcome to join the family in celebrating Bob's life and homegoing, as he now rests in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Halifax Health Hospice, halifaxhealth.org/hospice.
