Obituary

Robert E. Stanton, MD, 91, of Palm Coast passed away January 15, 2016.

A Memorial Mass will be held in his honor Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church at 10:30am. Family welcomes friends to gather at the church one hour prior to the service in the Memorial Room.

Dr. Stanton was born Aug 16, 1924 in Pittsfield, Mass to Mr. & Mrs. Patrick S. Stanton. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1942. He married Joyce Sheehey on July 4, 1953; his wife of 62 years.

Dr. Stanton proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He served as a T/3 Surgical Technician in the 107th Evac Hospital. This unit landed on Omaha Beach, France. He earned 5 Battle Stars and a Presidential Unit Citation as the only hospital to be open throughout the Battle of the Bulge.

After his military service, he returned to St. Michaels College in Vermont and Boston University School of Medicine. He did his internship at Greenwich Hospital Greenwich, Connecticut and his residency in OB-Gyn at the Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Stanton opened his practice in Manchester, Connecticut and joined Dr. Don Guiman to form the Manchester Obstetrician and Gynecology P.C. He received a commission as Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force and served 1 year active duty at Tyndall Air Base in Panama City, FL. Dr. Stanton followed Air Force duty by working in the South East Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama.

Dr. Stanton was an avid golf player and held membership in 16 different clubs from Vermont to Florida. While a member of the Halifax C.C. in Ormond Beach he organized a golf group called the "Medicare Kids" which is still active after 10 years.

Dr. Stanton is survived by his wife, Joyce, and by his children: (Robert) and Ann Badger - Floyd, VA, Mr. & Mrs. Christopher J. Stanton - Fair Haven, Vermont, Miss June Stanton - Danbury, Connecticut, Mr. & Mrs. Shaun Stanton - Dartmouth, Massachusetts, and Mr. & Mrs. Kevin Stanton of Hampstead, New Hampshire, and by his grandchildren: Mr. & Mrs. David Badger, Ryan, Genevieve, Lee, Molly, Mac, Patrick, Zane, Meghan and Michael; and by his great-grandchildren: Mattie, Owen, Breck, and Sullivan.

Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Palm Coast.
