Obituary

Robert Michael Stamatis 59 of Ormond Beach died July 24 2009 after a short but courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born in Brooklyn NY October 6 1949. Robert earned a Masters Degree from both Hofstra University and Florida Institute of Technology. Robert taught for 34 years at Bethune-Cookman University followed by 26 years at Daytona State College and touched the lives of countless students. He will be remembered most as being an inspiration to many science majors and one who fostered the careers of many nurses and medical personnel. Robert's interests outside his career were watching football hockey or listening to an array of music from his collection of over 7000 iTunes. As a child he was an avid concert go-er and a regular at the Fillmore East. He collected NASCAR model race cars WWII bomber planes as well as a collection of dragons dragon riders fairies and dinosaurs. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife and dear friend Lori who he married July 4 2005; Brother George (Patty) Stamatis; Cousins Karen (Neil) Haney Alexandra Jamie and Sofya Leras; Niece Tracey (Michael) Pritch; Nephew Adam Stamatis Godson Mark (Laura) Haney and his best friend Walter Saviuk. He will be dearly missed by family friends colleagues and students. A memorial service will be held at 7:00pm on Saturday August 15th at Lohman Funeral Home 733 W. Granada Blvd.
