Robert J. Shore 84 died Saturday morning October 24 2009 at Bishop's Glen Health Center Holly Hill Florida while recuperating from surgery for a broken hip. Services will take place in Ionia MI and are pending contact funeral home for more information.
He is survived by a step-son Roland (Pat) Crane Midland MI; a brother; Jim Shore Holly Hill Fl; a brother Lee Smith Jennison MI and a sister; Jean Hallam Jennison MI. Bob was a grandfather of four; Angela (David) Bruder Novi MI Michael Crain Greenville NC Jennifer (Nathan) Harms; Chapel Hill NC and a grandson Jeffrey Crane. Bob was born in Grand Rapids MI on January 22 1925 to Elwyn and Lola (Switzer) Shore. He left high School in his senior year enlisted in the US Army service as a demolition man and combat infantry man in Co I 7th Infantry (3rd ID). He was wound in France while clearing a minefield on November 20 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart. After recuperation he studied journalism at Grand Rapids junior college for a semester then enlisted in the US Air Force and served as a radio technician in the 68th fighter Squadron Japan until 1950.
Bob met and married Hope (Downing)Crane in 1960. He worked at Brown Manufacturing in Ionia Michigan until his retirement in 1982 when they moved to Holly Hill. He had a lifelong interest in photography and in veterans affairs and was a proud member of the Ionia VFW Ionia Moose "Thee Union" and Daytona DAV. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Ionia Michigan.
