Robert Singleton Shelhorse Jr.

1919-2005

The family of Robert Singleton Shelhorse Jr. wishes to announce his passing of natural causes on February 3 2005. Mr. Shelhorse is survived by his wife of sixty-four years Mrs. Mary Louise Adams Shelhorse his daughter Bobbie Louise Shelhorse Harden and his grandson Ashley Whitfield Harden. His son Steve Donnelley Shelhorse preceded him in death in 1963. Mr. Shelhorse was born in Hopewell Virginia on January 5 1919. Mr. Shelhorse was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy class of 1938. Prior to his coming to Florida Mr. Shelhorse worked with his maternal grandfather?s Virginia based construction company of Haymes Construction Incorporated. He and his family came to the Ormond Beach area in 1947. In the Ormond Beach area Mr. Shelhorse worked construction on Magnolia Terrace and Holly Hill Plaza. In 1959 Mr. Shelhorse joined the Burns & MacDonald Company on the construction of Dulles International Airport and surrounding Washington D.C. and Maryland area beltways. In 1969 Mr. Shelhorse was employed by Gene Linton and the Deltona Corporation on the construction and development of Marco Island Florida where he stayed until his retirement in 1983. In his retirement years Mr. Shelhorse enjoyed his passionate hobby of building and travel with his family. There will be a viewing and celebration of Mr. Shelhorse?s life on Wednesday February 9 2005 at 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon and 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening at Baggett & Summers Funeral Home at 736 South Beach St. Daytona Beach.
