Robert J. Schamay April 20, 1936-September 7, 2021

Bob was born in New York City and raised in the Bronx by 2 very loving parents; Charles and Ethel Schamay. After high school he completed a four year tour with the Air Force as a Medic. He went on to graduate from the University of Miami and began his FBI career as a support em ployee in 1960. H e entered the FBI Academy in 1964 and was initially assigned to the Kansas City office and later reassigned to the Wichita Resident Agency when he fired a perfect revolver score to become a member of the Possible Club.

Next was the Washington Field Office (WFO) where he focused on Foreign Counter Intelligence (FCI) matters . As a special assignment he was selected to be one of the FBI's temporary Sky Marshals working with crews on Pan American flights around the world. He also assisted on Director Hoover's and Attorney General John Mitchell's detail s . He later interviewed wit h then director J. Edgar Hoover.

Bob was s elected for transfer to Salt Lake City (SLC) in 1971 for a major Soviet 'Illegal' case that was depi cted in the book "Cassidy's Run " by David W ise. His FCI duties involved Double Agent and Espionage cases . L ater , he became a General Police Instructor. Another special assignment was to the 'Wounded Knee' Indian uprising on the Sioux Reservation in South Dakota . He was also selected for Director Webster's detail when he attended "The Gathering of The Greats." Bob served as a counselor for the 113 th National Academy at Quantico. D uring a bank robbery in SLC he was wounded while assisting in the apprehension of the subject.

In 1983, Bob was offered a transfer to Honolulu for another FCI matter that later resulted in the recruitment of a target . He later became part of a team of Police Instructor s teaching in the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands as they de veloped into the Federated States of Micronesia. He taught in the Marshall Islands , Pohnpei, Kosrae, Guam, Truk, Yap and Palau .

While working in Honolulu, Bob met his second wife (to be), Diane. She was working there as an ICU nurse and they met on Bob's 50 th Birthday at the Waikiki Yacht Club.

Bob's last assignment in the San Diego office, where he participated in the first Short Notice Inspection conducted in the U.S. under the terms of the U.S., Soviet INF Treaty on the elimination of their intermediate and short range missiles.

After his FBI career he accepted a position at the U.S. Army Kwajalein Missile Range in the Marshall Islands with a security contractor for 4 years . It was there that Bob and Diane married in 1990. Upon completion of that assignment, they relocated to Ponce Inlet, FL where he enjoyed sailing, working in the BICS Program , serving as Chai rman of his Society Chapter, and Commodore of the Halifax River Yacht Club . He was also involved in business and real estate ventures before retiring. He and Diane spent a lot of time traveling around all seven continents and enjoy ed a vacation home in Port Townsend, WA.

A life well lived, Bob was a loving H usband , Father, Brother, and friend . He was larger than life, and loved living. We are truly thankful to his team of physician's, especially Dr. R uby Deveres.

He is survived by his wife Diane Schamay , daughter Susan Schamay of Ponce Inlet, FL, son Scott Schamay of Port Orange , FL. and brothers Richard Schamay (Barbara) of Port Orange, FL and Roger Schamay (Betty) of N orwalk , CT .
