Robert S. "Bob" Reed 85 died June 1 2010 at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Port Orange. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday June 12 at First Christian Church of Daytona Beach with the Rev. David Troxler officiating. The church is located at 326 S. Palmetto Avenue Daytona Beach. Bob was born in Marshalltown Iowa a devoted son to the late Robert E. and Helen F. Reed. Bob was a loving husband to Marilyn A. "Lyn" Reed for 55 years in a happy marriage which brought him his greatest joy in life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Bob graduated from Iowa State University in 1949 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He moved to Daytona Beach that year and was hired by D.W. Browning Contracting Co where he was later majority owner and president from 1968 to 1986. He was also an officer and engineer for D.G. Meyer Inc. from 1991 until his retirement in 2005. During the 56 years he practiced engineering in the Daytona Beach area Bob designed the heating and air conditioning systems for many large-scale construction projects including Halifax Hospital Daytona Beach Community College Spruce Creek High School Adventure Landing and the Aliki Towers. In 2000 he received a prestigious award from his peers for his engineering design of Keiser College in Daytona Beach. Bob served on many governmental boards including the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board to which Governor Bob Graham appointed him in 1984. He was highly respected by the business community family and friends for his honesty and integrity. Bob joined First Christian Church of Daytona Beach in 1962 and was an active member serving in many leadership roles. He loved to travel was an avid fisherman and a licensed private pilot. Bob had an intense love of nature and fished for many years with his family at a log cabin he designed and built in Ontario Canada. Left to cherish his memory and witty sayings are his wife Lyn; daughter Kim Winslow and her husband Paul of Norfolk Virginia; daughter Pamela Pohl and former son-in-law Ralph Pohl both of Colorado Springs Colorado; three grandchildren Julie Ogle of Williamsburg Virginia Andrew Ogle of Denver Colorado and Travis Rich of Daytona Beach Florida and many other family members and friends. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Halifax Hospice or to First Christian Church.
