Robert J. "Bob" Ransom 85 loving father grandfather uncle and friend passed away at home in Ormond Beach Sunday January 24 2010 following a long illness. Robert was born to Robert J. and Georgia L. Ransom in Watts Flatts New York on February 18 1924. He attended the University of Buffalo and Alfred University from which he received his M.A. degree. He also served with pride in the United States Army during WWII as a surveyor to clear landing strips in Central America. Mr. Ransom taught in New York schools before coming to Florida in 1957 to teach in Seminole County at Deland Senior High School and for almost twenty-five years at Daytona State College teaching Anatomy and Physiology to nursing students. After retiring in 1989 he moved to Franklin North Carolina where he enjoyed entertaining many friends and family at "Camp" was an avid reader and writer to pen - pals all over the world enjoyed gem mining was a member of the Franklin Literacy Council and was a patron of the great outdoors. Some of his fondest memories were of his trips west coast to coast with his family. He was a member of The First Presbyterian Church in Franklin NC and later a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ in St. Augustine. His faith was steadfast and his heart was always open to helping the less fortunate. His smile and ability to find the good in everyone were exemplary
He was married to his loving wife Barbara C. Ransom for 25 years. She preceded him in death on March 31 1985. Surviving are his loving daughters Julie Cucchiaro of Ormond Beach Kathryn (Joe) Fisher of Middleburg grandchildren Zachary Prescott of Ormond Beach Lauren and Austin Fisher of Middleburg niece Claudia (Doug) Ayers of Madison Wisconsin and many other friends and family including longtime feline friend "George." Also preceding him in death was one sister Jane Tyler. Following cremation a graveside side memorial service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Deland FL on Saturday February 6 2010 at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Robert J. Ransom Nursing Scholarship being established at Daytona State College in his memory; checks can be mailed to 1200 W.
