Obituary

A Funeral Service for Robert Nuger of Port Orange FL & formerly of Longmeadow MA who passed away at Florida Hospital-Oceanside after a brief illness will be held at 1:30pm Sunday March 8 2009 at Temple Beth El 579 N. Nova Rd. Ormond Beach FL with a private burial at Rodphey Shalom Cemetery in Chicopee MA. Robert was born on July 7 1920 in Springfield MA. He attended Springfield Public Schools. Robert was a past member of Beth El and Sinai Temples both in Springfield MA. He began his long career in the business world by founding Interstate Tire and Brake in Enfield CT. He was a pioneer in private brand tires founding Eliminator Tire and Rubber Company and Prowler Tire and was one of the first people in the industry to be involved with the private branding of tires. Robert also was a real estate developer and was responsible for numerous projects including Brookside Village Condominiums the Crown Plaza Hotel and several of the businesses along Route 5 at the state line in Enfield CT. He was a World War II Army veteran having served in the Philippines. He was also a Shriner. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years Sylvia (Kalicka) Nuger. He was also preceded by his brothers: Ed Nuger and his wife Dorothy his twin brother Gus Nuger and his wife Shirley Paul and Harry Nuger. He leaves behind his beloved son and daughter-in-law Steven & Christine Nuger of Port Orange & formerly of Longmeadow; and his daughter Pamela who resides at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow MA. He also leaves behind his three beloved grandchildren: Dr. Rachel Nuger of Simi Valley CA Larry Nuger of Ormond Beach FL and Jonathan Nuger of San Francisco CA; and one great grandson Ashton Conner Nuger of Ormond Beach. He is also survived by his sister Ruth Seldin & her husband Oscar; sisters-in-law Rita Nuger of Stamford CT and Pearl Nuger of Singer Island FL along with several nieces and nephews.
