Robert E. ?Bob? McCarthy age 59 passed away at his residence in Palm Coast on Monday June 5 2006. Bob was born in Jersey City N.J. on February 25 1947 to Edward & Consuela McCarthy. After high school; Bob entered the US Navy serving from 1964 -1967. In 1968 Bob began his law enforcement career working for the Montville Township Police Department. He achieved the rank of Detective Sergeant and left there in 1979 and moved to Flagler County. Bob served as the Chief of Police for Flagler Beach from 1980 until 1983 when he was appointed by the governor as the new Flagler County Sheriff. After serving for 18 years as sheriff Bob began working for the Flagler County School system. Originally Bob worked with handicapped children and then later began working with the Adult Education Program and the Apprentice Program. He was a member of many civic organizations throughout his career and was still active with the Florida Sheriff?s Assoc. and the American Legion. Bob was also a collector and very proud of his collection of vintage radios.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years Kathy; and his brothers Eddie and Brian. Left to cherish their memories of Bob are his parents Edward & Consuela; daughter Kathy Baldwin & her husband Marcus; son Kevin McCarthy & his wife Colleen; grandchildren Neal & Maura McCarthy plus one baby Baldwin on the way; sister Marilyn Johanessen; In-laws John & Jane Markowski; special friend Paula St. Francis; and his cat J.J.
