Robert F. “Bob” Lloyd, 91, pushed away from the dock and crossed the bar in the early hours of Monday, June 22, 2026, and set a course for heaven after a legendary life well-lived on the shoreline where he was born. Whether known as Mr. Lloyd, Bob, Bill’s twin brother, Robert F., Poppy, or “Sweet-Ole-Bob,” he was known to all as a true friend, a devoted husband, father, a patriotic veteran, and a treasured leader in the Daytona Beach community. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, leaving in his wake a legacy of faith, service, and enduring impact.
Bob and his identical twin brother, Bill, were born to Adelaide “Lady” Lloyd on May 4, 1935 – the first caesarean twins born at Halifax Hospital (original “Hali-Babies”). The twins thrived in their hometown of Daytona Beach and spent their lives and careers working alongside their dad, J. Saxton Lloyd, at Lloyd Buick-Cadillac, hunting and fishing in woods and waters near and far and embracing everything that Volusia County had to offer.
Bob grounded his actions in a deep and abiding faith, which shaped both his personal life and his many professional and civic contributions. Bob and brother Bill headed north to college in South Bend, Indiana. Bob was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame and took a bit of his Florida warmth to the cold Midwest, and departed with a lifelong commitment to integrity, leadership, and service to others.
Bob honorably served his country as an officer in the United States Navy. His military service instilled in him a sense of discipline, duty, and patriotism that remained evident in all aspects of his life. Following his time in the Navy, Bob became a legendary figure in his hometown of Daytona Beach, known widely for his leadership in both business and civic life. He was respected not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his unwavering commitment to the betterment of his community. As past president of the Rotary Club of Daytona Beach, and two-time Rotarian of the Year, Bob exemplified the Rotary ideal of “Service Above Self” and the 4-Way Test, leading with humility, vision, and dedication.
Bob’s greatest pride and joy, however, was his family. He was the beloved husband of Sandra D. Lloyd, to whom he was devoted for 68 wonderful years of marriage – a partnership defined by boundless love, rock-solid faith, and mutual support. She was both his North Star as he navigated his life’s journey and his steady helmsmen steering in all weather, fair and foul. Bob was an exceedingly proud father to his six children: Lisa, David, James, John, Robert W., and Stephen. As proud as he was of his own children, his joy flourished in the crew of daughters-in-law and grandchildren who soon crowded the family Christmas cards. His daughters-in-law: Erin (Dave), Mary (Jim), Michelle (Capt. John or J.L.), Sherri (Bobby, Bob, R.W.), and Stephanie (Steve) joined Lisa in the male-dominated family. Soon, 19 grandchildren, 2 grandsons-in-law, 2 granddaughters-in-law, and 3 great-grandchildren joined the proud and growing crew. He cherished his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Those who knew Bob will remember him as a man of wit, character, generosity, and unwavering principles. His presence was steady and reassuring, his leadership impactful, and his kindness far-reaching. His legacy lives on not only in his family but in the many lives he touched through his service, mentorship, and friendship.
