Obituary

Robert G. (Bob) Leitten 91 of Port Orange passed into eternal life at 6:57 a.m. Sunday September 28 2008 at the Halifax Medical Center in Port Orange. Bob was born July 30 1917 in Buffalo New York the son of Charles C. and Rose C. (Gaulocher) Leitten. He was united in marriage to Bertha Rosemarie Boruta on July 27 1940. He served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. While stationed at Logan Field in Boston he and his squadron participated in the little-known bombing' of MIT in Cambridge Massachusetts testing radar-jamming technology that later contributed to the successful defeat of enemy radar in Europe. Bob retired as a supervisor at Iroquois Gas Company in Hamburg New York in 1979. He was a member of the Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange and the American Legion in Daytona Beach. Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years Bertha Rosemarie Leitten of Port Orange; son Brian (wife Lynn) Leitten of Port Orange; brothers Edward Leitten of North Chili New York Joseph Leitten of Pavilion New York and Eugene (wife Joan) Leitten of West Seneca New York; and grandchildren Jude Susan Leitten of Washington DC Brian Joseph Leitten of New York NY and Steven Michael Leitten of Port Orange. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers Carl Kenneth Arthur Howard Harry and Franklyn Leitten. A memorial service at Countryside Lakes is being planned. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his name to the FREE Foundation (www.free-foundation.org) which provides mobility rehabilitation equipment to those who cannot otherwise afford it.Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com.
