IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Edward
Lauthain
October 23, 1930 – September 20, 2025
Robert Edward Lauthain
October 23, 1930 – September 20, 2025
Born to Pearl and Robert R. Lauthain on October 23, 1930, in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following the passing of his father, Robert, in the boxing ring when he was only three months old, he was raised by his mother and later his stepfather, Harold Merryman. The family resided in Minneapolis until Robert joined the U.S. Navy in 1951. During his naval service, he met Jeanette Mainor; they were married in Jacksonville, Florida, and subsequently settled in Melbourne, Florida upon his discharge.
Together, Robert and Jeanette welcomed their son, John Gregory. Robert worked for Southern Bell, initially selling Yellow Pages, and later advanced into supervisory roles. His career took the family to various locations including Daytona Beach, where they had two more children, Joan Marie and Ann Marie. His employment necessitated relocations to Atlanta, Jacksonville, Gainesville, and Orlando.
Later in life, Robert married Louise Mosely. Following his retirement, they resided in Ponce Inlet until her illness prompted a move to Cumming, Georgia, where they lived until her passing in December 2024. In January 2025, Robert returned to Ponce Inlet and lived there until his death on September 20, 2025, enjoying his retirement and community life.
Robert was preceded in death by his son, John Gregory Lauthain, and his wife, Louise Lauthain. He is survived by his daughters, Joan Marie Taylor (son-in-law Glenn Edward Taylor) and Ann Marie Cusack (son-in-law John Cusack); his grandchildren, Christopher James Taylor (wife Amanda), John Cusack (wife Ashley), Michael Taylor (husband Chad Jones), Elyse Scally (husband Stuart Scally); and his great-grandchildren, Hayden, Amelia, Aubrey, John, Nathan, and Margo.
