Memorial Service for Robert Johnston age 73 of Palm Coast FL and Highlands NC who passed away Saturday August 28th 2004 at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital in Highlands NC will be Friday September 3rd at 11:00 AM in St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church Palm Coast FL with Rev. Tom Bingol officiating.
Mr. Johnston was born on October 31 1930 to Charles and Mildred Magan Johnston in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and moved to Palm Coast in 2000 from Heathrow FL. Robert attended the University of Maryland on a football scholarship and then for many years worked for Sauer Corporation of Pittsburgh. As a large construction company Sauer did major construction in the initial building of Disney World sending Robert to Orlando to work on the Disney World Project. Robert left Sauer in 1970 founding Keystone Mechanical Inc. of Orlando selling the business in 1989 to his two sons Chuck and Keith.
During the many years Robert spent in the Highlands he was a member of Wildcat Cliffs Country Club where he was a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer a member of Cullasaja Country Club attened the First Presbyterian Church supported both the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital as a Master Key Club member and Highlands Playhouse. In addition to doing considerable residential building in Wildcat Cliffs Country Club Cullasaja Country Club and Highlands Falls Country Club Robert along with his wife and several partners also owned the Days Inn in Franklin. Robert was a member of St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church in Palm Coast.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years Lou Johnston 2 Daughters: Terri Gelbart of San Diego CA and Barbara Harris of Winter Springs FL 4 Sons: Charles Johnston of Heathrow FL Keith Johnston of Longwood FL David Klinger of Ocala FL and Tom Klinger of Clermont FL 12 Grandchildren and 1 Great Granddaughter.
