Robert David Hughes, 83 of Daytona Shores, passed away January 14, 2016, at Bishops Glen, Holly Hill, Florida, after a long battle with multiple health problems. David was born in Covington, Kentucky, July 25, 1932, the son of Robert B. Hughes and Carmelita G. Louth.

He was predeceased, in death, by his parents and a daughter, Charlotte Lee Hughes He is survived by his wife Mary Frances "Frankie" Hughes and a grandson Craig (Samara) and two great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Jonah, of Blanchester, Ohio.

David grew up in Kentucky. He was graduated from Miami of Ohio University with a master's degree in finance and accounting. David served honorably in the United States Navy Reserves and the United States Army during the Korean War. While stationed with the Army at Fort Lee, he developed a passionate interest in the War Between the States (Civil War). Just out of college, he began his long and interesting career with Champion International Paper Co., in Hamilton Ohio. He retired after 34 years of dedicated service which required international travel and 5 years of living in Brazil.

David was a member of Westminster-by-the-Sea Presbyterian Church, served as treasurer for 10 years, an elder, taught disciple classes and was a member of the "Men of Westminster". He was a board member and past president of the Presbyterian Counseling Center; supported and served on the "Board of Visitors" for "Thornwell Home for Children", in Clinton, S.C. and supported "Duval Home", in Glenwood, Fl.

Before his health failed he enjoyed golf; following automobile racing, both at Indianapolis and NASCAR; reading history; and above all cheering for his beloved University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 6, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Westminster-by-the-Sea Presbyterian Church, 3221 South Peninsula Drive, Daytona Beach Shores, Fl., with Dr. Jeffery Sumner officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to a Memorial Fund in his honor at Westminster-by-the-Sea Presbyterian Church. Condolences may be shared through this online guestbook.
