Robert "Bob" Howard Cleveland

Robert (Bob) Howard Cleveland, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully May 20, 2022 , at the age of 88 at the Ormond Beach Halifax Hospice Care with his wife, Pam, by his side .

Bob is survived by his wife, Pam ; sons Robert , Australia , and Michael ( Ren é ) , Redding, CA ; b rother, Thomas (Mary), Birmingham, AL ; and brother-in-law , Mike Thompson, Ormond Beach, FL; g randchildren, Sierra, and Kiani , Australia; Joshua, and Nicholas (Lauren), Redding, CA ; g reat g randchildren, Kellen, Delilah, and Luna Rae who called Bob "Big Daddy" ; n ephews, Michael J ( DeAnn ), and Mark (Lisa) .

Bob was born in M a cclenny , FL , October 2, 1933 , g raduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, FL . He worked at the Atlantic Bank in Jacksonville before enlisting in the Navy in 1953, where he served aboard the USS Coral Sea during the Korean War. Following the war he worked for Lockheed in Atlanta, GA , for a short period before entering the University of Florida in Gainesville (always a Gator Fan ) and was active in the Theta Chi Fraternity.

While at the UF he married Janice Pamela Cleveland, on November 25, 1955. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage. Bob had a successful management career in the trucking industry, first with Great Southern Trucking which became Ryder Truck Lines. In this era, trucking was highly regulated by the Interstate Commerce Commission. Bob studied ICC Law at the College of Advanced Traffic and was admitted to practice before the ICC and the Florida Public Service Commissio n . When Ryder purchased Pacific International Express, Bob became VP of Traffic and the family moved to Danville, CA. Career stops included Lee Way Motor Freight in Oklahoma City and finally Viking Freight in the San Francisco Bay area from which he retired in 1998. Bob and Pam returned to Florida and bought a home in Ormond Beach.

Bob and Pam were fortunate to be able to travel extensively, including many c ruises . Bob enjoyed playing golf , watching Gator Football, appreciating life and their family in every way . Bob was a member of Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church where he particularly enjoyed the Men's Bible Study.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church on June 30, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
