Obituary

Robert H. Wilson 82 a resident of Daytona Beach Shores Florida since 1997 died on October 2 2010. Mr. Wilson was born on January 20 1928 in Houlton Maine the son of Robert A. and Flora M. Wilson. He graduated from Hodgdon High School where he was a member of the basketball team from 1943-1946. His passion for basketball remained with him for his entire life. After graduating from Husson College in Bangor Maine he was employed by the Department of Agriculture for the state of Maine. Bob remained with the Department of Agriculture from 1949 until his retirement in 1980. During his career with the State of Maine Department of Agriculture he started as a potato inspector working from Limestone to Newport Maine. In 1952 he became a poultry grader working in Augusta Rockland and Belfast Maine. In 1954 the family settled in Augusta Maine. In 1980 Bob retired from the State of Maine Department of Agriculture as a Supervisor a position he served with pride for 25 years. He was then employed by the Federal Government as a grading and egg product supervisor for the state of Maine. He was transferred to Gainesville Georgia in 1980 and remained there until his retirement in 1997. After his retirement Bob and Anita Wilson moved to Daytona Beach Shores Florida. Bob enjoyed fishing boating motorcycling bowling and golf. Bob also loved to dance. The Wilsons graduated from the Belgrade Lakeside Promenaders Western Square Dance Club in 1976. They were also members of the Lakeshore Squares in Gainesville Georgia; the Yonah Mountain Rounders of Port Orange Florida; the Swinging 8""s of Daytona Beach Florida; the Granada Square Dance Club of Ormond Beach Florida; and the Flagler Ocean Waves of Flagler Beach Florida. In 2004 the Wilsons traveled to England Scotland Ireland and Wales and danced with their club members in all 4 countries. His claim to fame was kissing the Blarney Stone. He enjoyed their many trips to Europe Canada the Caribbean Hawaii and Alaska. Survivors include his wife Anita of Daytona Beach Shores; his four daughters Joanne (Stephen) Zayszly of Leeds Maine Linda (Rodney) Layman of Moorpark California Marilyn (Ricardo) Quiroz of Tucson Arizona and Joyce (Robert) Williams of Vassalboro Maine. Mr. Wilson had nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents his brothers Lawrence and Waldo and his sisters Evelyn Simpson and Madeline Rawson. Out of town arrangements are under the direction of the Plummer Funeral Home 16 Pleasant Street Augusta Maine. A visitation for family and friends will take place Wednesday October 6 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home chapel on Thursday October 7 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery Western Avenue in Manchester.
