Obituary

Funeral services for Officer Robert Francis Grim Sr., 60, who died in the line of duty on Saturday, Nov. 13, will be held Friday, November 19, at 11 am at The Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. His family will receive friends on Thursday, November 18, from 1-3 pm and from 5-7 pm at Lohman Ormond Funeral Home, 733 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach.

Born Dec. 7, 1943 in Allentown, PA, Bob moved to this area following his service in US Army. He graduated from the Daytona Beach Police Academy and went on to receive his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the Univ. of Central Florida. Bob was a truly committed and dedicated law enforcement officer who was deeply passionate about the safety of his community in which he served. He began his career in Volusia County in 1966 as a Life Guard. He was then selected to serve as the first school resource officer in the state of Florida. Bob created and established the program which continues to be modeled today.

His career provided him with many other promotions and opportunities. Bob organized 28 new neighborhood watch units which opened the door for the creation of a Residential Security Check System. He developed a Stranger Danger and Bicycle Safety Program and taught D.A.R.E. to many elementary school children. As a Volusia County Sheriff's Deputy Bob developed and organized Crime Stoppers in Volusia County into a successful non-profit citizen based organization. He produced wrote and directed crime scene re-enactments for television and radio spots. In 1997 Bob was selected as the Chief of Police of the Daytona Beach Int'l Airport Police Dept. and led a full service Police Dept. In July 2003 Bob joined the Ormond Beach Police Dept. Bob?s community involvement was matched only with his dedication to his professional involvement and his commitment to his family.

He was a member of both the Int'l Assn. of Police Chiefs and the Fl Police Chief's Association; he was Past President of the Volusia County Police Chiefs Assn. and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Harry Raines Lodge #22. His awards included the Jaycee Law enforcement Officer of the Year Elk's law Enforcement Officer of the Year and a Commendation for Bravery.

Bob was a member of Prince of Police Catholic Church and is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Linda his son Robert Francis Grim Jr. and daughter in law Kelli of Ormond Beach; son Jason Grim of Ormond Beach; daughter Tiffany and son-in-law Paul McAlister of Ormond Beach; his brother John Grim of Holly Hill Fl; his sister and brother in law Mary and Brian Monahan of Allentown; his granddaughter Abigail; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Mary Grim and his two brothers Paul and Bill Grim.
