Robert G. Smith Capt. U.S.N 91 of Port Orange went to his eternal rest on Thursday October 21 2010. Robert was born in Williamson West Virginia on October 5 1919 to Dr. William J. Smith and Vida Good. Robert graduated from the United States Naval Academy class of 1943 and served in the Pacific theater during WWII. In 1943 Robert married the love of his life June Goodlad of Port Arthur Texas. June and Robert raised their family in various Navy towns including Annapolis MD; Norfolk VA; San Diego CA; Newport RI; and Pearl Harbor HI. They moved to the Daytona Beach area in 1972. Robert was a member of the Halifax River Yacht Club and worked on the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse Restoration Project. He enjoyed golf various card games collected coins and worked and wrote crossword puzzles. Those left to cherish his memory are sons Robert Smith Jr. (Marsha) of Tucson Arizona and David Smith (Cherie) of Camden South Carolina; Four beloved grandchildren Ballard Smith Lauren Smith Shannon Smith and William Smith ; Three Great Grandchildren Wesley Smith Joelle Smith and Ethan Smith.
