Robert "Bob" Stanley Davis 76 of Ormond Beach Florida and Copper Harbor Michigan passed away peacefully Wednesday March 13 2013 at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Care Center Orange City FL. He had endured a long courageous fight with numerous illnesses.
Bob was a retired Executive Regional Planning Director in the Wausau Wisconsin area and eleven municipalities as well as the owner of the Minnetonka Resort since 1972.
Born October 27 1936 in Carlinville Illinois he was the second son to Jonathan E. & Vivian M. (Brown) Davis. He grew up and worked on the family farm in Atwater with his brother and two sisters. Bob graduated from Carlinville High School class of 1954. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Geography from Eastern Illinois University. His family summered at one of two cabins on Lake Medora in the late 1940's to 1950's. In the mid 50's Bob bartended at Pontiac Resort & the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge in Copper Harbor where he met his loving wife of 40 years Judy. He served in the US Air Force working on meteorological projects & later was an assistant city planner in Peoria IL. He & Judy were married October 14 1972 in Copper Harbor. Bob was a 54 year member & Past Exalted Ruler with the B.P.O.E. here in Ormond as well as Wausau. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge Rotary & Copper Harbor Improvement Association. Along with others he helped bring cable television to Copper Harbor to support local tourism businesses. Upon wintering in Florida he went to work as a Realtor & Broker for Watson & A.H Stone Century 21. Bob enjoyed being outdoors. He liked snowshoeing waterskiing on discs & rocking chairs racing his Corvette on Brockway Mountain (with the lights off!) boating golfing & visiting the family camp whenever time allowed during his busy summers. He loved spending time with his new grandchildren & family from afar.
He is survived by his wife Judith Ellen (Haskins) Davis of Ormond Beach FL & Copper Harbor MI daughter Johanna Davis of Copper Harbor MI son Art (Miranda) Davis of Copper Harbor MI two beautiful granddaughters Aster & Lillian brother Jonathan B. (Marjorie) Davis of Harden IL sister Doris (Tom) Leffleman of Farmington MO numerous nieces & nephews cousins & loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents & beautiful sister Jean Chamberlain.
Bob's Celebration of Life will be held at the B.P.O.E. 2193 in Ormond Beach Wednesday March 20 at 5:00 P.M. There will also be a service in Michigan later this year.
