Robert Louis “Bob” Brick passed away at the family homestead in Port Orange, Florida on the morning of July 3, 2026. Born on September 18, 1956, Bob will be remembered as a kind soul who made everyone feel better when in his presence.
Bob was the youngest of the five children of John C. and Lourdes G. Brick. His father served in World War II in the Army Corps of Engineers and met his mother shortly after the Battle of Manila as the Corps was rebuilding the city. At the conclusion of World War II, John left the military and reentered the Corps of Engineers as a civilian real estate appraiser. He immediately returned to Manila to marry his true love, Lourdes. After several other assignments the family ended up in Okinawa, Japan where Bob’s older brother, Victor (1953), and Bob were born. Bob and the family then spent 4 years in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and 22 years in Silver Spring, Maryland, outside of Washington, D.C. Finally, in 1982, the family moved to Port Orange, Florida where Bob spent the remainder of his life.
Bob had open-heart surgery at the age of 8 to replace a defective valve. He was one of the youngest pediatric heart patients to undergo open heart in the country at the time. He underwent a second operation in August of 2025 to replace that same valve. While it appeared that he had completely recovered from the second surgery, there is reason to believe that the heart issues that plagued Bob his entire life finally caught up with him. We will never know for sure. What we do know is that Bob was a kind and gentle soul that never had a bad word to say about anyone. He loved his family and friends, and he loved the Lord. We also know we loved him very much. And anyone that knew him loved him, too.
In true Brick fashion, Bob never let his heart condition stop him. He went to Springbrook High School, in Silver Spring, Maryland, Class of 1974. His senior year he finally got medical clearance to participate in sports and lettered in both football and track. He ran on a Montgomery County Championship Mile Relay Team at Springbrook. He played varsity tennis at Salem College, in Salem, West Virginia, graduating in 1980 with a business degree. All of this from a guy who was told by his cardiologist that he would never play competitive sports. He spent the majority of his adult life helping assist his brother, Merrill, and sister-in-law, Sherry, care for his parents in retirement in Florida. An avid drummer who could jam with the best of them, Bob loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, bowling with his sister, Marilyn, and playing tennis with his brothers and father, as well as with other family members.
Bob is survived by his brother, Merrill (& Sherry) Brick; sister, Marilyn (& Winfield) Keller; brother Victor (& Lynne) Brick and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, John C. Brick, mother, Lourdes G. Brick, oldest brother, John W. Brick, and niece, Vicki Brick-Zupancic,(Lynne and Victor’s oldest child)
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 15 at All Saints Lutheran Church in Port Orange, Florida at 11:00 am, with a reception at All Saints to follow.
