Funeral service for Robert W. Bennett 46 of North Atlantic Ave in Daytona Beach will be Friday 2-25 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Lohman Ormond Funeral Home. His family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 till 8:00 pm. Born in Indianapolis he was a resident of this area since moving here 10 years ago from the Atlanta area. He was a construction foreman for Flores and Hager here in Daytona Beach. Robert was a midget car racer for most of his life. He was the grand national champion in midgets in Tulsa and at 18 he advanced to _ midgets and was a member of UMRA . In 1978 he was the rookie of the year. He still holds 2 track records with UMRA. At age 20 he started driving full midgets USAC and in his first year he was the highest finishing rookie from over 300 drivers. He also still holds 2 track records with USAC. For about 15 years most of the racing was done in Illinois Ohio Michigan and Indiana. He gained much popularity with his fans. Robert quit racing at age 35but has been an avid fan ever since. He is survived by his parents Noble and Valeria Bennett of Ormond Beach and his brother Richard of Daytona and his ½ brother Dave Buckoski of Titusville.
