The world lost a wonderful man on 3/30/17, his 91st birthday. For anyone who had the benefit of knowing him, your lives were richer for it. Faith, family, country was the highest priority for this man of impeccable character. Robert B. Bell was born on 3/30/1926 in Philadelphia, PA to James and Elsie (ne Shields) Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Virginia, brothers John "Jack" and Michael James "Mick." Bob quit high school during WWII to work in the Philadelphia Naval Yard, building ships to be sent over to battle. He convinced his mother to let him join the Army at age 17 to fight the war, and was soon a part of the 105th Port Marines Division in the European Allied Forces. Bob went on to have a very fulfilling military career retiring after 22 years in the Air Force. It was early in his career that he met Dorothy Whiles while stationed in Omaha, and they were married for 65 years. They had 6 children (Timothy, Carol, Patricia, Robert, Teresa and Sean. The family traveled to several places before settling in Willingboro, NJ. Bob and Dorothy's wanderlust for travel carried them to Europe again for his work after their children were grown, and he spend another 5 years in Germany before finally retiring. They made their home in Port Orange, FL, where he enjoyed teaching catechism, planning military reunions and traveling to see his family. Bob is survived by Dorothy, his six children and their spouses, 4 grandsons (Taylor, Robert, Sean, Michael) and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Robert will be celebrated by the Revered Raymond O'Leary at 8:30 AM on Wednesday April 5, 2017 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 4675 S. Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider the Emory L.
