Robert (Bob) Louis Baldwin, Sr. of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the age of 81 after a lengthy illness. Bob is survived by his sons, Joseph Simmons, George Simmons, Harry Sperry Sr, daughter Debra Sperry Berg, sisters Peggy Ann Baldwin Johnson (George), Brenda Leigh Baldwin Goldman, brother James Douglas Baldwin (Nancy), twelve grandchildren, fourteen great- grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years, Catherine Simonetta Baldwin, son Robert Louis Baldwin Jr, brothers Jerry Albert Baldwin, and Donald Max Baldwin, mother Jennie Victoria (Hardin) Baldwin, and father Albert T. Baldwin. Bob was born on May 20, 1936 and moved with his family to the Daytona Beach area in 1948 where he resided for more than fifty years with the exception of a brief period of time in his original home of Asheville, N.C. In 1956, Bob started Baldwin Painting which later became Jerry Baldwin & Son Painting and served the Daytona area for sixty-one years until Jerry's death only days prior to Bob's passing.
Bob got an early start on becoming a versatile mechanic while working at "Smokey Yunics Best Damn Garage in Town" in Daytona. He later worked for DW Browning also in Daytona, Blue Ridge Trucking in Ashville, NC, and finally retired from MSD Services in Asheville. He loved race cars and NASCAR and partnered with Gene Bass to run track circuit for years under "Bob's Garage" of Ormond Beach.
Bob was a sportsman who hunted with his family and friends. He was a member of the NRA and a strong conservative defender of the Second Amendment. He loved race cars and NASCAR and partnered with Gene Bass to run track circuit for years under "Bob's Garage" of Ormond Beach.
From 1956 -1958 Bob served in the US Naval Reserves.
Visitation for Bob Baldwin will be on Saturday September 23 at Lohman Funeral Home, 733 W Granada, Ormond Beach, Fla. Family visitation begins at 11 am, followed by visitation for friends from 12 - 2 pm. Services will begin at 2 pm, followed by burial at Daytona Memorial Park after which all relatives and friends of the Baldwin Brothers, Jerry and Bob, are invited to a Celebration of Life at Holiday Inn LPGA, 137 Automall Circle, Daytona Beach, FLA 32174
