Obituary

Robert James Baker passed away on March 2nd, 2018. Bob was born on September 21 st , 1928 to Arthur and "Minnie" Baker.  They lived in Portland, Michigan.    Bobby went on to be an All Star Athlete at Portland H.S. Football, Basketball and Baseball which lead him to become a strong leader.  His friends took him along to meet his girlfriend's roommate one weekend and he met the love of his life; Donna Eileen High.  They got married at Holy Cross Catholic Church on August 7 th , 1948. Bob eventually went to work for her Father at Ruess and High Grocery Store. He learned how to be a Butcher from her Father.  He moved his growing family to Lansing, MI to be closer to his work.  The store was a part of Lansing Wholesale Groceries were small stores could get their supplies at a discount.  Bob went to work for Lansing Wholesale as an Advertising Manager. The board saw his strengths and asked him to become their General Manager.  He took a struggling company to a multimillion dollar corporation, named Associated Grocerer's of Michigan. He took his wife to conventions all over the world.  They loved to cruise.  He was a wonderful dancer and the voice of an angel at Church, but he was known to stand up in the middle of a convention and sing: I'm going to buy a paper doll that I can call my own.  After many successful years he and Donna he retired to Naples, FL.  You could find him on the golf course most of the time, but he soon found he needed to do more. He took over fund raising for his new Church, St. John the Evangelist.  He raised so much money that not only did they build a huge beautiful Church but a Life Center as well.  Bob moved Donna to Ormond Beach at Plantation Bay to be closer to his children and from there up to Altoona, FL to Lakeview Terrace Assisted Living.  His final journey brought them to Port Orange, FL. where his oldest daughter could help with his passing.  Bob and Donna had seven children.  Deborah "Deb" (Mark), Marian, Michael (Elaine), Mary Elizabeth (deceased), Robert II, Amy Jo (deceased), and Lori Marie (deceased).   They have four grandchildren, Shawn, Jayson, Travis, and Shannon.  Eleven great grandchildren: Kyle, Megan, Matthew, Haleigh, Hannah, Alexia, Stephen, Henry, Kayla, Oliva and Robert.  Bob's final days were spent in the loving care of Port Orange Nursing and Rehab and then on to Halifax Health Hospice Care Center in Port Orange . In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Halifax Health Hospice Care Center in Port Orange.  A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 6th, 2018 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Ave., Port Orange, FL.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Wednesday, March 7th, 2018, at 8:30 am.
